I know there are municipalities in California which have banned natural gas in new homes already, but it's to be expected from my home state. But if they try to ban the purchase of new gas stoves, the well-off will just buy their fancy stoves on the secondary market.

A lot is going on that have greater implications at the moment. Biden's trip to the border and his conference with AMLO for one. This may have been just been the perfect 'shiny' object news story to splash across the airwaves (old reference) to distract.
Although at this point, most news stories have to be triple-checked to know if they are parody. As we accelerate towards Ideocracy the news continues to resemble Pravda and The Onion more everyday.
