Let me disclaimer this by saying I don't know Jodi at all. I'm pretty sure I heard of her for the first time moments ago when I saw people on X talking about this post…
Over a million views in just a few hours. I saw it from several wailing what a horror this represents. And that's why I opened with the disclaimer. I typically would bristle at the notion of a professor getting canned for their words. We are (were once) a nation proudly fortified down on the notions of free speech, free assembly, and free press. Those don't actually apply in an educational setting, but the core principles are omnipresent. So I'm really not even casting judgment on the specific instance here. I'd be hesitant to do that without knowing the situation better. But it didn't take turning over too many rocks for me to get a vibe of what Ms. Dean is all about…
This is her bio on X:
And when I went to see where she teaches (taught), this was one of the first images that hit me on the interwebz. She seems quite proud of it.
As those who follow me know, I've been digging down a rabbit hole lately of why the hell our citizenship is using our own treasury to fund overt anti-American (communist) revolution in the name of the “humanities”. The amount of funding that goes into the NEH and the scope of grants it dishes out to this specific flavor of ideology and anti-American radicalism is difficult to even process. I'm rather new to this topic area and it makes me feel like an explorer I keep finding so many new areas to head down with every door I open.
And so it only took a few clicks for me to realize “Yeah, she's that”. She is the embodiment of this (de)colonizing Frankenstein cultivated within academia and now ripping across our society with seemingly no governor. That's because one of our two parties is using this radicalization for political power Mao-style. That's because our media is allowing them to. And that's only because they were first able to capture it. What Jodi represents is what I've been generally referring to as “The Same Thing”. Yes, it means communism. It has always meant communism; capture and control for The Collective, now at a global level.
And I'm surely not saying Americans cannot espouse communism. Of course they can. I guess people can even set up entire communist schools if they want. But the Hobart and William Smith Colleges don't openly sell themselves as communist, do they? I mean, their DEI shit on their website is as insane and assembly-line as you'd expect, but I would assume most parents paying tuition wouldn't openly pay for their kids to be indoctrinated with the hammer and sickle (rather than just wondering if they are).
It really is an assembly-line. It's eerie to see how identical everything is written and spoken and rooted down. It is scripture. These are almost entirely atheists, and often militantly so. Of course, replace the church with the state. Textbook Marx; a core and necessary tenet of communism/The Collective. Because for most Americans, their collective is the church. I've written about this a lot recently too. This is THE seam! The Queer+ Church as antithetical and oppositional to our majority faith. Critical Christ Theory. To all traditional faiths, really. This is the essence of “Queering”.
But other than laying out the ideology that underpins it all, I really haven't addressed Jodi. She was terminated by her employer over commentary about Palestine. Ahhh, Queers for Palestine!
There's that decolonizing Frankenstein again. It is roosted rabidly in activism around Palestine. Always has been; just ask Marc Lamont Hill or any BLM activist. And let me again go back to those core principles and be clear here, I'm not saying one can't be passionately pro-Palestine. That's your prerogative. But scan back up here in your mind, where have we landed? We were talking colleges and professors, dancing around communism, and now we're in some radical activism when it comes to the fiery flavor Ms. Dean covets and advances. It's all one hell of a story, isn't it? Turning back to her college and recent career post…
As mentioned above, lately I'm mind-blown at why we ever allowed academia to go in this direction. Why would we systematically fund what plainly amounts to anti-American revolution? And once taking academia, it usurped the managerial class, and then mainstreamed out across everything as D-Equity-I. By state force, mind you. Not to mention wicked institutional pressure and complete domination across campuses. These all fed each other, like dominos. This is The Machine; built to brainwash our youth in waves. I'd submit we're on like wave 3-5, not the first. Look around us, this is the insanity of 2020-on. Just as Yuri described.
Those who fancy these Utopic dogmas and want to advance The Collective, or are just caught up in the manic tribalism and politics of this moment (which on the blue side is bound to the same), will reframe this and push back as me saying these views should be barred from our schools all together. Then I become the authoritarian far-right who wants to Bible thump their ways on all. It's so easy and obvious and trite. Because that's not why I wrote this at all…
I called this “Turning Point” for a reason. It's not that we're running new scarlet lettering across America. It's that we have lived under a tidal wave crush of ONLY blue “Progress” even allowed at the table for a solid 20+ years in a row. The scope of it is staggering!
And it resulted in this zombie-like “expert-class” capture absent critical-thinking, which paired with media dominance allowed for the grotesque apparatus I call The Truman Show. Which appears to be able to project faux-realities with the press of a button. Over and over. And Team Blue has simply fallen in line. We saw this all reach a crescendo and reveal itself during COVID. That's because this was always meant to operate as one population-level machine, to capture and control. Long-term game over moves. Transforming; dismantling; revolutionary. This is why it always boils down to anti-capitalism.
Why should our colleges structure themselves around everything I just described? It is overtly anti-American. Go back to Prof Jodi. Here is a lady who brands herself proudly around disruption and revolution for communism (ironically, radical black feminism). Why WOULD a school choose to pay her to push this on its students? Would we pay a Branch Covidian to push the doctrine of Koresh? I can't imagine so. I can think of a whole lot of groups and doctrines and dogmas that we wouldn't want to pay to teach. Communism sure got a strange free pass, didn't it? Probably for the same reason generations of kids have worn Che tees. And again, I'm not suggesting this school of thought be force memory-holed from society. The question is, what do we champion and pay to fund and therefore advance? And when that answer is overt radicalism and revolution against our own fundamentals, we have big problems.
Because to toss out my not-properly-researched two cents, I don't believe this is a sign of descending right-wing Christian nationalist fascism at all. I think it's much more analogous to Target and Bud Light. It's a response. The American people are saying GFY! across the board now. And boy, when a quite fringe liberal arts college is giving a commie the axe, that's a hell of a barometer on where our winds are now blowing.
As a final note, there is a needed discussion as to why it would take a batshit-crazy professor going batshit crazy against Israel for them to take action. Without even knowing her, I can guarantee you this is not the first group she has gone batshit crazy against. I'd bet those count as men, whites, straights, families, stay at homes, Christians, conservatives, etc. The usual; it's the assembly-line. The laser-focused hatred of Team End Hate. What revealed itself on 10/7 at the surface level (I say it that way because those who wanted to know knew long ago) has horrified most of the west. But this isn't a new problem. It's The Same Thing.
It was the one push that made The Straddle too wide to hold. It made a lot of people wake and wisen up to what is actually going on here - what has been going on the whole time. How wicked these New Colonizers are. Sadly, not nearly enough, as it is still in control of one of our two parties and could win power again. How that internal straddle is still holding within the DNC, I don't have a clue. It would melt down in an afternoon if we had an honest media. But we haven't had that in a long time.
It will be interesting to see where these winds blow. I think this could be a major sign. Not because of Jodi, but for what the move stands for. The Cult of Solidarity is finally shattering.
